In a well hidden cove of the river Mino lies A Cova river beach (Praia fluvial). This little man made jewel lies within pristine landscape of the valley. When we look across we see a bit of Canada. Off season it is usual to have the beach for oneself but even during July and August it is never a sardine grill.
How to get there?
From Mer / Sober follow the signs N120 to Ourense. In Sober's famously signposted round about take the left sign to Ourense. The other one gets you there as well but in a more roundabout way.
You will come down to Canabal and after crossing the railway join the N120 to Ourense.
The next exit will be Fereirra.
Leave the N120 here and at the end turn right into Fereirra.
At the round about take the road sign posted to Escairon.
You will climb up and go through Eire and Nadal. After Nadal keep a look out for a long high hedge on your left. After passing this you will see a lonely house on the right.
This house guards a cross road. Turn left (Praia fluvial / A Cova).
On an intersection of multiple little streets keep left (Praia Fluvial).
Down hill all the way. If you happen to spot the sign Mirador its worth stopping and after a short walk there is a breath taking view of the Mino bend.
After quite a while you will pass a noticeable church on the right. After the next bend (you have just passed a house) a small road leads to the right and down, just follow this.
You may see a glimpse of the beach whilst climbing down. When it levels (Sign Belazar), park and the beach is to your left.
There is also a small bodega / bar where you can get drinks and food.
Enjoy - Careful when swimming out far. The river is very deep here and cold currents may well up unexpectedly.
You can return the same way or drive along the river Mino. In the late afternoon or early morning this valley has a dreamlike atmosphere. Houses seem to float on the water, framed by incredible steep hill sides full of vine (Mencia).
You pass Belazar and later you join the N120 from Chantada in direction Monforte.
Just as you join you may see a dam in the distance. Why not go there, drive over the dam, avoid the power station by turning right in front , keep going for 1Km and enjoy a cup of coffee or a drink on the balcony of the club Nautico (closed Monday).
To get there ?
After joining the N120 take the next exit to the left Pasqueras.
The second road to the left (may be sign posted club Nautico).
Follow this winding road. The dam will come nearer. When the road widens , take the left side and, yes, drive on the top of the dam towards the power station.
Just before the station turn right keep going until the road ends.
You have arrived at your destination.
