This is a nice after lunch walk. It's about 5Km all the way. One follows the river slightly downward and upward on the way back. The amount of mils that once stood proud and working is staggering and gives a hint on how populous the area once was.
Like all walks - it is very advisable to bring plenty of water and some sustenance as there is none on the way. Suitable shoes are recommended, this is a rural path with uneven and when wet, slippery stones. Depending on recent rain fall the walk can be partly flooded.
Start point: From the N120 Monforte / Ourense get off at Canabal and follow signing to Sober. In Sober follow the sign to Arxemil. Just behind Arxemil you'll see on the right side a widening used as parking and the above sign.
It is an enjoyable walk that leads through a small valley sometimes with dense woodland always along the river Cabe. Specifically in summer the shade and water generate a tolerable atmosphere even in the early afternoon heat.
Ingenious engineering of canals to divert the water and gain height to run the mils is still very much prevalent. Of the old water mils there are some foundations and some more substantial structures still to see.
Trees grow through ruins and moss may cover the long abandoned mill stones.
The path meanders switching sides along the Cabe. Later on views open to some vineyards.
At the end you'll find yourself at the parking for Os Chances. In summer the catamaran stops here. Great views across the river Sil open up and walls or the jetty invite to pause.
As the camino ends here it is sparingly used and one can walk back on the road or much more enjoyable along the Cabe.
A longer version of this walk starts at the Casa Grande de Rosende. If you stand in the front the walk starts to the right along the outer wall. Here you may also be able to get refreshments.
